Internal Medicine
If your pet is feeling unwell but the signs are not obviously pointing to surgical intervention, internal medicine may be required for diagnosis and to create a treatment plan.

Animals cannot tell us how they feel. When they have unexplained symptoms like vomiting, diarrhoea, excessive drinking, malaise, weight loss or gain, anaemia and fever, internal medicine is used to investigate the likely cause.
Diseases of internal body systems are often interlinked. Through the combination of advanced knowledge in this area and our state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment, our veterinary surgeons are able to investigate, diagnose and treat a wide range of medical problems in pets.
Common internal medical conditions we treat at STAR Vets include:
- Gastroenteritis
- Hepatitis
- Pancreatitis
- Cushings disease
- Addisons disease
- Diabetes
- and many others.
Diagnostic aids
At our Appleby Magna veterinary practice, we have state-of-the-art, digital diagnostic imaging equipment and a laboratory on-site, to aid us in internal medicine investigations.
We also have access to a number of trusted veterinary specialists and referral centres, and an external laboratory, for when a case requires more specialised expert opinions and tests.
Looking after your pet
If your pet needs to stay with us for the day (or longer) to have tests carried out or for close monitoring, we will do everything we can to make them as comfortable as possible.
Our separate dog and cat patient wards are well equipped with different size kennels, including walk-in kennels in our dog ward. Your pet will be able to rest on comfortable bedding and will be doted on by our caring team.
If you are concerned about your pet’s health, book a consultation with one of our vets.
